Interface shear test for pavement layers

The bonded between agglutinated and granular layers of pavements has been shown to be an influential factor in their estimated performance. However, research on the real condition of interfaces has presented difficulties in experimental evaluation. This work aims to present an interface shear test applicable to two layers of materials, one of which may or may not be bonded. For this, molds that guarantee the integrity of the granular layer and an apparatus that allows the shear test with application of controlled normal stress, attachable in a universal testing machines, have been developed. With this, it was possible to obtain the shear stress and the relative displacement between the layers throughout the test. According to the evaluation, the test was efficient in determining the shear stresses at the interface, indicating that the shear strength measured is representative of the real interface strength.Downloads
