Brazil is going through an important moment in the pavement industry due to an ongoing development of a mechanis5c-empirical pavement design method. In this paper, the importance of two variables in the predic5on of cracked area over 5me, temperature and traffic speed, is inves5gated using the CAP3D-D soHware. A mechanis5c analysis along with empirical transfer func5ons is used to analyze 4 Hot Mix Asphalt considering 16 different scenarios with the same pavement structure. The results confirm the significant sensi5vity of the predicted cracked area to the variables inves5gated, with varia5ons from 6 to 40% through a 120-month simula5on between temperatures in the Northeast and South regions of Brazil, respec5vely, and varia5ons of up to 33% for comparisons between 10 km/h and 90 km/h, respec5vely. It is shown that in addi5on to producing different cracking results, the mixtures showed different levels of sensi5vity to temperature and vehicle speed varia5ons, making it clear the importance of considering these parameters in pavement design.
