There is still no consensus on the effects of using molded or cored/cut specimens on the mechanical characterization of asphalt mixtures. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the difference in using molded or cored/cut specimens of a single asphalt mixture by means of different laboratory tests: uniaxial and triaxial permanent deformation, uniaxial tension-compression fatigue, dynamic modulus, indirect tensile strength, and resilient modulus. Aggregate gradation and binder content on both molded and cored/cut specimens were evaluated. Higher sensibility was noticed on the permanent deformation tests, followed by the dynamic modulus and the tension-compression fatigue test. No significant variation was observed on the resilient modulus and the indirect tensile strength tests when the two types of specimens investigated were compared.
