Public Transport in Third World Cities preenche uma lacuna importante na biblioteca daqueles envolvidos com a provisão da oferta por transportes públicos. Sua capa azul contrasta com o vermelho da clássica obra de Vuchic (1981) que tem o mérito de classificar as distintas tecnologias e sintetizar as experiências desenvolvidas no hemisfério norte. O livro objetiva prover informações básicas sobre o transporte publico urbano em países em desenvolvimento para agencias de fomento e consultores, identificar aspectos básicos que possam estimular pesquisadores a desenvolver trabalhos detalhados, apontar nichos de mercado para investidores privados, além de descrever experiências bem sucedidas, desenvolvidas em várias localidades, de forma a estimular suas transferências. É muito mais uma obra direcionada ao gerenciamento da operação e aos aspectos institucionais e gerais do planejamento, do que à descrição detalhada dos sistemas e tecnologias empregadas no transporte público urbano.Downloads
