Abstract:
This paper analyses the effects of the sample size definition on the measured values of prevailing saturation flow rates at signali7ed intersection approaches. The most currently adopted methods for measuring saturation flow rates only indicate (when do it) the recommended number of cycles to be considered, without stating both the impacts of this number on the measured saturation flow values and the consequences of using different sample sizes. In the present work this evaluation is done based on case studies, and it intends to give the future users of the considered methods a clear perception of the impacts caused by sample sizes on the standard error of estimate at a given site for specific levels of significance.
