Abstract: Studies have showed that road conditions influence the accidents’occurrence. Thus, it is necessary to perform actions to minimize this influence. For this, it is important to identify the major pavement distresses and to propose corrective actions. The present study analyzes the skid resistance in road sections with higher incidence of accidents in two Brazilian states (Pernambuco and Paraiba), through the use of the tests sand patch, British pendulum, and outflow meter, and the calculations to obtain the international friction index (IFI) of the selected points. Then, some of the hot mixtures asphalt (HMAs) used in the field were reproduced in the laboratory to verify their behavior with respect to skid resistance. With these values, a methodology that can be used to predict HMA friction performance in the field was developed, aiming to improve roads security by checking its skid resistance parameter.
Keywords: pavement, safety, skid resistance, hot mixtures asphalt (HMA).
