Logistical problems are responsible for non-fulfillment of organ donations in Brazil. There are not tools to assist a decision making for choice of flights that allow the transport of organs within a period appropriate. This paper aims to present and apply a mathematical model based on the shortest path problem, to peer compatibility analysis of origin and destination airports to transport organs for transplantation by air mode, using regular airline flights in Brazil. After literature review and interviews with officials of the National Transplant Center, the mathematical model was developed with application in twenty-five real cases. We considered thirty-two of the main Brazilian airports for which established an origin-destination matrix and the compatibility of couples to transport organs for transplantation. It was found that in only 52% of cases, the organ was transported to the first receiver the waiting list. It is believed that the decision to send the organ to receivers other than the first one in the list could be also related to the lack of a support tool for identifying potential connections between sources and destinations, which could be avoided if there were proposed compatibility matrix.Downloads
