The tire-pavement adherence is a major factor to minimize episodes of hydroplaning. Conventional texture assessment methodologies prove to be inefficient and unreliable, due to human intervention in the test. On the other hand, the development of new technologies has provided more agile assessments through techniques such as Digital Image Processing (DIP). In this sense, this paper aims to analyze of the superficial runoff of the rainwater with evaluation of the texture of airport coatings through DIP. The field study was carriead out at an aerodromo in the state of Ceará and sought correlations between the Sand Patch Test and the three DIP methodologies
presented. With success rates of more than 70% according to the macrotexture
classification, it was concluded that the pixel counting method proved to be efficient for analyzing the macrotexture in situations where there is a presence of water in the
pavement.
