Senior High Schools have important impacts on transport and traffic systems in their vicinities and are duly clas-sified as Trip Generators. Students getting on or off vehicles on arrival or departure from such institutions are determinant factors for the main impacts. Nevertheless, there are few studies, especially in the Brazilian literature, specifically directed at describing and analyzing those operations. Against that background the study reported in this paper sought to define and test an appropriate procedure that could be used to obtain a characterization of students’ boarding/getting off operations, including the time taken to carry them out. The procedure was successfully tested in Brasilia and the results obtained make it possible to estimate the number of spaces the respective institutions should provide to facilitate students’ boarding or getting off vehicles on arrival or departure.Downloads
